North American TF-51D Mustang "Miss Velma" 44-84847 [CYD] |
Built too late to see combat in WWII, P-51D-25 44-84847 was one of the last Mustangs constructed at North American Aviation's Dallas, Texas, plant. There is evidence that it served with the 45th Tactical Reconnaissance Sqn at Kimpo, in South Korea, in September 1951 during the Korean War.
By 1956 44-84847 had 'vanished off the radar' until it appeared in the hands of Bob Odegaard of Kindred, North Dakota, as a restoration project in January 1999.
Aquired by TFC the following year, the Mustang was transferred to Fighter Rebuilders of Chino and the decision was made to modify the aircraft into two seat TF-51D configuration.
Miss Velma finally arrived at Duxford on 4th July 2007 after a flight over the Atlantic from Chino
