Supermarine MkXVIII Spitfire G-BRAF SM969 |
The Spifire MkXVIII was produced in two variants, the F and the FR. It was basically a
MkXIV with strengthened wings and undercarriage and substantially increased internal fuel
tankage. One hundred F's and two hundred FR's were built.
G-BRAF was originally constructed by Vickers Armstrong at Keevil being delivered to the
RAF as SM969 in August 1945. In January 1946 it was shipped to Karachi but returned to the
UK in mid 1947. Following a period in store it was shipped once more to India becoming HS877
with the Indian Air Force. Following retirement from service it remained at New Delhi until
purchased by the previous owner in 1978 and shipped to Blackbushe for rebuild.
The aircraft was aquired by TFC in April 2006 and shipped to Duxford to start its
restoration to flight
