The permit renewal Inspection on the F.2b started out as a fill in job, but has unfortunately developed into some thing a little bigger. Whilst inspecting the Rolls Royce Falcon engine, scoring in the cylinder bores was discovered in three of the engine cylinders. The cause of the problem is currently being investigated, meanwhile all the remaining cylinders have been removed for inspection as a precaution. The inspection of the airframe revealed a couple of loose wires in the rear fuselage, most probably as a result of the aeroplane being to well kept in a heated hanger and some shrinkage of the timber members taking place, these adjusted we where then faced with the problem of refitting the fabric side panels. The panel, which are laced together with 'Kite-Cord', unfortunately to date we have not been very successful in locating any of the correct grade and size, the original cord now being somewhat shorter after it was cut off to be refitted. |
