1997-09-10Spitfire Mk V becomes a media star

The baby Spitfire is set to become the star of a BBC documentary series. UK readers who tune in to War Walks in early December, we can't be precise on a date, and will be able to watch the machine take off, display, land and then taxi fully round the film crew in two huge circles (it should look very impressive, I was with the crew at the time and have to say the effect was very entertaining).

The aircraft then provided the backdrop to an interview with Wg Cdr Bob Doe and the whole afternoon was rounded off with the camera perched high on a gantry over the nose of the aircraft whilst the presenter made an opening address to camera.

Fuel tank leaks, reported in the May news page, were cured at last and the aircraft has been able to take a full part in the summer flying schedule.
